Galapagos vacations
Bartolome Island
|
Named after Lt. David Bartholomew of
the British Navy. Has an area of 1.2 km2 and a maximum
altitude of 114 meters. Bartolome is one of the youngest islands in
the archipelago. |
 |
|
|
It displays a fantastic
landscape of lava
formations. Pinnacle
Rock, the worn away remnant of a cone composed of
spewed ashy particles, is one of the best-known landmarks in
the
archipelago. Near the base of this tall, eroded pinnacle
you can see multi-coloured fish and
penguins. If you climb up to the
summit of the island you can see the varied volcanic
formations of Bartolome and the immense black lava flows on
the nearby island of
Santiago. |
|
The resulting combination of moonlike
landscape provides probably the most scenic panorama in the
Galapagos Islands. |
