History of Ambato Ecuador

Prehistory

According to the archeologists, in this province there settled themselves the archaeological phases Macaji, Puruha Cosango-Pillaro whose ages would be 200, 500 and 700  AC respectively. From the East unmigratory  big  waves  came. When there arrived the Incas the nation Puruha, they was occupying the regions today included in the provinces of Tungurahua and Chimborazo. According to a former statement it is said that "Hambato" was an indigenous independent state formed by the Huapantis, Quisanpichas, Izambas and Hambatos.

Conquest and Colony

After to foundation of Quito, the Spanish conquerors supervised by Benalcazar   penetrated   to   these

territories and conquered the indigenous resistance headed by the brave Rumiñahui. Located  the Spanish in these lands begins the allotment of the properties and the formation of commissions that so many critiques have raised for their abuses and the exploitation to the aborigines.
