Española is the nesting place of the
albatross
and also hoists sparrow hawks,
marine turtles,
masqued boobies,
marine iguanas,
sharks,
sea lions, swallow-tailed gulls,
finches,
Galapagos doves, giant turtles,
tropic birds and
blue-footed
boobies. A lava fissure on the shore has created a blowhole
where water spurts high in the air when the waves hit the
wall. It is the southernmost island of the archipelago hosting a
large proportion of endemic fauna.
Many of the birds here are indigenous to
the area, and can only be seen in the
Galapagos Islands.
