Santa Fe Island
|
Also called Barrington.
Named after a city in Spain, has an area of 24 km2.
It was formed by an uplift caused by
tectonic activity, means that the island
does not have the typical cone shape.
Weathered cliffs provide
a haven for swallow-tailed gulls, red-billed
tropic birds. |
 |
|
Santa
Fe hosts a forest of Opuntia cactus, which are the largest of
the
archipelago, and Palo Santo. The two beaches are
sleeping grounds for
sea lions. Near the small island at the
entrance of the bay,
snorkelling the clear waters also can be rewarding.
|
|
Santa Fe species of Land iguanas are often
seen, as well as lava lizards. |

|
Santa Fe is one of the best locations for
swimming with sea lions and for a glimpse of the Galapagos
white-tipped
shark and sea turtles.
There is a picturesque turquoise lagoon and
calm waters where snorkeling can be done along sea lions. |
