Trekking in the Galapagos Islands
Galapagos trekking
Although
Ecuador is a relatively small country with the densest population of
any South American country, it offers many remote areas ideal
for trekking and hiking excursions.
Trekking in Ecuador is
easily combined with a visit to the country's more traditional
destinations: the Galapagos Islands, colorful indigenous markets,
Amazon jungle lodges, or Pacific coast beaches.
Islabela Island is the only place in the Galapagos where extended
trekking is possible, but up until
recently
this has been difficult to organize, owing to national park
regulations and the shortage of essential supplies.
Isabela is a
unique environment, and includes five major volcanoes, one of which we
climb. It is one of the last remaining habitats of the giant
Galapagos
tortoise, and home to many of the most interesting species of
wildlife.
Trekking in the Galapagos; a unique combination of the
wildlife,
volcanoes and geology of the Enchanted Islands. Trekking to the
highest point for a view of the entire Archipelago is worth the
effort.
